New-energy vehicle adoption is advancing globally, while South Africa still needs policy certainty, charging expansion and local value-chain investment to accelerate its own transition.

Tyres are part of the transition

Electric and hybrid vehicles change the operating conditions that tyres must handle. Vehicle mass, instant torque and low cabin noise place greater focus on load capacity, wear, rolling resistance and noise performance.

That creates a practical opportunity for tyre dealers and fleets. Advisers need to understand approved fitments, pressure management and the service expectations of drivers moving into NEVs.

Prepare the aftermarket now

The replacement market does not need to wait for mass adoption. Stock planning, technician training and customer education can start now, alongside wider work on charging and industrial policy.

A credible NEV strategy should include the tyres and service systems that keep those vehicles safe, efficient and affordable throughout their working life.
